Perimeter is found by adding the number of units of each side of the rectangle. If the width is 'x' and the length is '5x' and the perimeter equals to 72, we can then say that x + x + 5x + 5x = 72 Now solve to find 'x' > 12x = 72 > x = 72/12 > x =6. This means that the width is equal to 6 inches. If the length is five times the width, you can multiply 6 by 5 to get 30. The length is 30 inches. To find the area of the rectangle, you multiply width by height. 6 times 30 = 180. The area of the rectangle is 180 squared inches!
